Announcement from Board Chairperson to WRBC Congregation re: Pastoral Housing Fund

This announcement is coming to the congregation from the Board and it is to make the congregation aware of some major projects that need to be addressed in the near future.

For example, the air conditioning units located on the roof are nearing the end of their normal life span and will need to be replaced in the next several years.

The carpets, except for the platform, throughout the church are indicating that they haven’t been replaced since the church was built in the early 1990’s.

Projects that have recently been completed are the roof, the activity hall, sound and lighting in the sanctuary, and the platform carpet.

A current need is to increase the Pastoral Housing Fund in order to assist pastoral staff to be able to purchase housing within the church community.

As we are all well aware, housing costs in this area are substantial.

The church did own an apartment in the complex to the south of the church, but a few years ago this apartment was sold and the funds put into a housing fund for pastoral staff. Since that time several of the pastoral staff have made use of the fund.

The Pastoral Housing Fund is made available to pastoral staff on a loan basis secured by a second mortgage. The loan is repayable to the church as the individual staff person is able but must be paid in full when the staff person leaves the employ of the church. This allows the funds to be returned to the Housing Fund to be made available to other pastoral staff.

Currently the fund has $215,000. The Board would like to see the fund increase to a minimum of $500,000 which will give us the opportunity to meet the housing needs of our pastoral staff.

The Board is appealing to members of the congregation to consider making donations to the fund which would be over and above one’s regular giving. This can be done in several ways, one being a legacy given in a will and another being a cash gift. Tax receipts will be given for donations.
